Of Fake News, Fake Items, and Fake promises
When Trump run for president of the United States of America, he dismissed few news agency for fake news. Basically, any news agency that reported news that not in his favour will be branded fake news.
Many moons after the US presidential election, Malaysia was hit by this fake phenomenon. Not fake news but rather people making millions selling fake branded items. The news was reported by one of the Malay daily tabloids Harian Metro.
Fake branded items were not new to Malaysian. Those who lives up norths will go to the Malaysian - Thailand borders to buy branded items at cheap price. Ask any Malaysian about Kayu Hitam and Padang Besar, they can attest to this.
Then came the era of budget airlines. Now every one can go to any destination by air as the air ticket had significantly reduced. Tsunami of 'trade' visits to Bandung, Indonesia or Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Why? You can get branded items cheaper at these places. People want to be seen with branded items but cannot financially afford the original.
Why buy fake items...because its cheap.
For young people, there are uptowns and downtowns whereby you can buy some branded items cheaper. Is it original? Probably not.
Petaling Street has long been promoted as part of tourist attraction in Kuala Lumpur. The place has been beautified and make it accessible for tourist to come. What can find at Petaling Street? Fruits, Chessnuts, Rolex watch, designer handbags. Is it genuine? There is a high probability that it is not.
Two days ago, the Malay tabloids reported that the authorities had raided few premises belonging to a young 'millionaire'. The authority had confiscated branded items allegedly to be fake items. The raid is due to complains from the owner of the original items.
Well, nobody is above the law. There are laws that deal with fake items. You should not profit from the sweat of others. The same thing when students copy and paste articles written by various authors and claimed that it was theirs. We can say it tantamount to cheating.
Maybe there are, but I never heard any media coverage on raids against counterfeiters at Petaling Street or uptown or downtown. The authorities should not take action based on 'report', please go down at these places and confiscate those fake items, with or without report. Or else people may say that the authorities may practice selective prosecutions.
Don't just go against an Insta celebrity only. Just because he posted photos with luxury cars and motorcycles. It gives the notion that it is okay to sell fake goods but don't 'show off'. As I mentioned earlier, nobody is above the law.
...while we still at the topic of 'fake', somebody told me that the General Elections is near. I guess as the election is just around the corner, there will be lot of fake promises flying around.
Why give fake promises..because its cheap.
Okay guys, have a nice day and don't forget #livefreerunningwild :)
